5 O'clock Shadow
Arcus Studios

5 O'clock Shadow is a looped piece of morphing animation projected down on to the beach. Using a visual style from traditional shadow puppetry, rigid characters with minimal movement will be animated to create fluid movement in the shadows. The piece will combine a mix of illustrated imagery relating to the use of the North East coast from the Lindisfarne Gospels through Viking artwork and on to the Victorian notion of the recreational seaside.
The soundtrack will be much like a broadcast animation. Constructed from dialogue, ambient sounds and Foley recordings, the audio design will be created to be as fluid as the visuals. This will be a playful and humorous piece suitable for all ages.
Arcus Studios are a small animation company based in Gateshead. They have recently produced a second series of cartoons for CBBC, a multi projector based animated installation and have experimented with Stereoscopic 3D technology to extend their animation practice. Visit their external website here
