Shimmer took place on 5th/6th November 2011 and was a huge success! At least 6,500 people passed through the site, providing extra dimension to the traditional Whitley Bay Links fireworks display. This new site specific projection and lighting event produced by North Tyneside Council comprised of a programme of specially commissioned works to reflect and celebrate the themes, traditions and timelessness of this beloved seaside location.

The highlight of the event was Diversión, a spectacular projection onto the front of the iconic Spanish City Dome. Activities extended on to the beach where new commissions from Colin Priest and Arcus Studios added fun, intrigue and atmosphere. Community involvement with Infinite Arts and Gavin Lockhart saw residents of all ages participate in the production of new work to reflect their experience of the seafront. North Tyneside Youth Circus premiered their new fire show and work by John Kefala-Kerr was revived in a seafront shelter.
